Lian is an artist, dancer and academic interested in cross-disciplinary practices, centering on the body.
Current research and creative development projects include the Luscious Apparatus project and the Thinking Through The Body project. Luscious Apparatus is an exploration of body-focused interactions, combining sculptural objects, wearable electronic sensors and the Bodyweather performance methodology for a live art context. Thinking Through The Body examines the role of the body in the process of interactive art, utilising the Feldenkrais somatic education system as a means of conceptualizing and working with the body.
She is co-producer and performer in the Pork Collective, a group of artists creating surreal, irreverent and beatific performance installation work (34B Burlesque Club, Underbelly Arts Festival, Peats Ridge Music and Arts Festival, The Great Escape Festival).
Her dance training incorporates a diversity of contemporary and alternative body/movement practices, including Butoh, Body-Mind-Centering, Daoist energy cultivation and healing practices, Native American sacred sexuality practices, African tribal dance, Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga, contact and movement improvisation. She trained and performed with Annetta Luce from 1997-2005 and is currently training in Bodyweather with Tess de Quincey.
Discover your inner animals. Move out of human verticality into four limbed prowling, hypnotic snake coiling or frisky bunny hopping. Let animal impulses colour your erotic expression. What is waiting to be let out of the internal zoo?
Drawing on experiential anatomy and energetic healing practices, this workshop will explore pathways into the playful realm of trans-species embodiment.
